A WeTransfer alternative with no account
Ferndrop does the basic job of WeTransfer, sending a file to someone else, without an account. This is an honest comparison, including where WeTransfer is the better choice.
The main differences
| Ferndrop | WeTransfer free plan | |
|---|---|---|
| Account or email address | None | See WeTransfer’s own pages |
| How much you can send | Links: up to 2 GB per file. Direct transfers: no limit from us | Up to 10 transfers or 3 GB in any rolling 30 days |
| How long a link lasts | 48 hours, then deleted | Varies by plan |
| Direct browser-to-browser sending | Yes, nothing stored | Not offered, as far as we know |
| Who pays | Sponsors. All profit goes to planting trees | Paid plans and ads, as widely reported |
The WeTransfer figures come from its own help page as it read in October 2026. Plans change, so check it before relying on it.
Where Ferndrop is the better fit
- You want to send something now without signing up or giving an email address.
- You don’t want a monthly transfer count.
- You’d rather your file wasn’t stored at all (a direct transfer).
- You like that the profit goes to planting trees. The pledge and its rules are here.
Where WeTransfer is the better choice
- You want the service to email the recipient for you. Ferndrop gives you a link and you share it yourself.
- You regularly send files bigger than 2 GB to people who aren’t online at the same time. WeTransfer’s paid plans allow much larger files.
- You need team features, a transfer history or password-protected links. Ferndrop doesn’t have these yet.
Privacy
